Prodimex and EkoNivaAgro invest in a joint dairy project

The largest in Russia sugar holding Prodimex, owned by Igor Hudokormov, has implemented a joint project together with the company EkoNivaAgro (part of the EkoNiva group managed by Stefan Dürr) to build three dairy farms in Voronezh region. The first of them, designed for 2,800 cows, is already being built in the Anninsky district. It should be put into operation by the end of this year. Two more farms will be built in the Bobrovsky and Buturlinovsky districts by 2020. The total number of cows at three farms will reach 8,400 heads. Prodimex invested about 15,000 hectares of land in the joint project.

Cheburashkin Brothers launched in a new line of dairy products

The agri-food holding Cheburashkin Brothers has released a new line of dairy products under the brand "Semeynoe delo (engl. Family business)". The line includes the most popular consumer products - milk, kefir, cottage cheese and sour cream. The company plans to produce 600 tonnes of dairy products per month under the new brand, which will allow to double the turnover in 2019 to $ 32 million. The new brand will capture a share of approximately 2% of the market in Moscow and the region for all produced categories. Total investments in the new project amounted to $ 48 million.

Big farms in South Carolina won the river case before court

The South Carolina Supreme Court refused to change the law that allows large farms to take river water without asking the state for permission. Residents in Bamberg, Darlington and Greenville counties filed charges against big farms that draw billions of gallons from South Carolina rivers. The complaining residents say that the law favors large farms over the needs of others and that the state massively gives away public resources. The accused industrial-scale farmers say the law is fair and that they need the water to irrigate crops, which provides food for the table.

Rusagro to invest over 300 $ million in business development

Rusagro, one of the largest sugar and pork producers in Russia, plans to increase investments in business development to 20 billion rubles ($ 318 million) in 2018, which is 14% more than the record high of 2017. In 2013-2016, the company’s total investments in expansion amounted to 37.6 billion rubles ($ 598 million). According to Maxim Basov, the general director of Rusagro, the company’s main goal in the meat business is to increase the production and processing of meat and to gain a leading position in the retail market. In the sugar business, cost reduction and an increase in processing are major objectives.

Astarta completed the spring sowing campaign

Astarta’s farm units have successfully finished the sowing of spring crops. The company’s total crop area sown in spring exceeds 170,000 hectares, including 41,000 hectares of sugar beet, 41,000 hectares of sunflower, 67,000 hectares of corn, 20,000 hectares of soybeans, and the rest under other crops (barley, oats, buckwheat, etc.). The structure of crop rotation reflects the existing market trends. Winter and spring crops are mostly in good and excellent condition. This year, Astarta’s agronomists planted more than a thousand of test plots of soybeans, sunflower, sugar beet and other crops. The best hybrids will be selected for the next year's sowing campaign.

New Zealand's biggest dairy farm clear of Mycoplasma bovis

Dairy Holdings Ltd, New Zealand's biggest corporate dairy farm with $1 billion in assets and Fonterra's largest supplier, is clear of Mycoplasma bovis. This was stated by chief executive Colin Glass. The company's 75 farms – 59 dairy and 16 grazing – are all situated in the South Island and predominantly in Canterbury. Mycoplasma bovis has so far been found on 38 farms throughout New Zealand. About 24,000 cows have already been killed in recent months and at least 128,000 more will have to be culled over the next years.

The Chiavassa group invests into robotics

The Chiavassa group, a family-owned dairy with over 35 years of experience located in the Argentine town of Carlos Pellegrini, plans to invest $ 2 million into an automated barn in the province of Santa Fe by 2020. At the moment the company's 1,300 cows produce 50,000 liters of milk per day. The new technology, which just begins to appear in Argentina, allows an increase in average yield per cow of around 10%.The company's ambitious plan is to increase its milk production by at least 15%.
