Workers of UkrLandFarming continue protests

News -

About 300 workers of the UkrLandFarming agroholding went out on July 26th to a peaceful protest action with a public statement to the authorities and business representatives to influence Gadyachsyr, the Ukrainian dairy company, which has payment obligations of UAH 49 million ($ 1.83 million) for the supplied milk. The protesters claim that the company should provide a payment timetable. Gadyachsyr has paid so far about UAH 800,000 ($30,000), which is about 2% of the total debt. According to the general director of Gadyachsyr, Victor Lisachenko, the company will be able to provide more information on the issue within one to two weeks.

Kernel confirmed its plan to purchase grain hopper cars

According to the statistics of the Emergency Prevention Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, more than a million accidents resulting in injuries have been registered in the country in 2017. Frigorifico Marfrig and BRF Brasil have been fined

Frigorifico Marfrig, a major producer of Brazilian meat and the second largest producer of meat in the world, must pay a fine of R$5 million ($1.3 million) for breaching the employment law. Marfrig S.A. is accused of overworking employees, a situation that was detected in 2010. In turn, the food company BRF Brasil was banned from dismissing 600 employees of its Francisco Beltrão’s plant due to the absence of a prior negotiation with the trade unions. BRF Brasil plans to completely close its plant in Francisco Beltrão during August 2018.

Astarta's wheat sales down by 98% in the second quarter of 2018

The Astarta-Kyiv holding’s sales of wheat reduced by 98%. Wheat sales decreased from 80,710 tonnes in the second quarter of 2017 to 1,510 tonnes in the second quarter of 2018. Bream's Ice Cream and Dairy Stores celebrates anniversary

Bream's Ice Cream and Dairy Stores, the US-based family-owned company, is celebrating 50 years of the company's existence. What was once a small dairy farm of 800 cows and the “local ice cream shop” has become a vertically integrated ice cream supply chain. Over the years the farm expanded into the 10,000-cow operation with 17 barns holding 600 animals each. The farm uses 48,000 acres (19,5000 hectares) of farmland for crop production in order to feed the cows. The farm also owns three processing facilities, producing bottled milk, butter, cottage cheese and other dairy products. Now, 50 years later, the company shows no sign of slowing down as it delivers its dairy products throughout Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, Missouri and Arkansas.

Rusagro's revenue drops in the second quarter of 2018 by 6%

Agroeco puts into operation a new grain elevator

The Agroeco group of companies put into operation a new grain elevator for the feed mill in the village of Gavrilsk, Voronezh region, Russia. The elevator is able to provide a storage of 120,000 tonnes of grain in 24 silos of 5,000 tonnes each. After the completion of construction, its capacity will be increased by 60,000 tonnes. Silos are designed to store wheat, barley, flax, soybeans, peas, corn, and rapeseed. It is planned to use the grain for the production of mixed hog feed. The grain elevator and the feed mill are parts of the second similar complex of Agroeco group in the region, which provides more than 150 new workplaces.

Large scale farms in Arizona accused of unlimited water pumping

Coronado Farms, an agricultural company based in Minnesota that runs the largest dairy and feedlot in Sulphur Springs Valley, announced its plans to double its local dairy operation, adding another 8,000 cows to its 20,000 acres (8,093 hectares) of land. The company is known to be the largest water user in the valley. The water activists accused the company together with other large scale farms in pumping too much water, so that the wells of many other smaller surrounding farms have gone almost dry. Groundwater rights in Arizona are still based on the doctrine of “reasonable use,” which allows a landowner to pump as much water as necessary to be put to a “reasonable use” such as farming. The water activists require the government to place a limit for industrial-scale farm operations on groundwater use. It seems to be the only way to stabilize the aquifers in Arizona.
