African swine fever detected at Cherkizovo

An outbreak of African swine fever has been detected at a pig farm operated by Russia’s leading meat producer Cherkizovo in the Tambov region. The farm maintains 12,000 pigs. To stop the spread of the disease, local veterinary authorities have initiated a quarantine for pig producers in the contaminated area implying a ban on the transportation of animals outside the quarantine zone.

Additionally, all pigs and pork products in the area will be destroyed. The pig producers will get respective compensations based on the weight of pigs and pork products.
