African swine fever detected on large pig farm in Romania

Olsuin, a large pig farm located in Romania's Brăila County, reports on the outbreak of African swine fever at its production sites. The farm, owned by Danish Premium Porc Group, will have to cull 26,000 pigs, of which 5,400 are sows. In response to the outbreak, the local authorities have set up a quarantine zone around the farm. This is allegedly the first case of African swine fever at the Premium Porc Group´s farms. As reported by the European Food Safety Authority, the virus of African swine fever is likely to spread across South-Eastern Europe in the nearest time. Premium Porc Group consists of 11 farms, with a total production volume of more than 600,000 pigs annually.
