Chinese government to support large pig farms

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China has urged Chinese provincial authorities to financially support large scale pig farms in order to stabilize pork production after the outbreaks of African swine fever. In particular, aid loans under simplified procedures should be provided to pig farms with annual production capacity of over 5,000 hogs.

With this action, China expects to prevent the shortage of pork countrywide. Based on the official data, as of April 2019, China’s total breeding herd fell by record-breaking 22%, compared to April last year.
