HarvEast to use wastewater to irrigate fields

HarvEast, a Ukraine-based agroholding operating 127,000 hectares of farmland in the Donetsk, Kyiv, and Zhytomyr regions of Ukraine, plans to cooperate with local authorities of Mariupol, a town located in the Donetsk region, in order to use municipal wastewater for irrigation of its fields in the region. The Mariupol municipality is to construct a sewage treatment facility and a trunk pipeline to the HarvEast fields, while HarvEast will pay the local budget for wastewater deliveries. With this project, Mariupol’s municipality, which now dumps treated wastewater into the Sea of Azov, will be exempt from effluent charge.
