JBS USA to abolish use of ractopamine in pork production

JBS USA, the world’s leading pork producer and a subsidiary of a Brazil-based JBS-SA, plans to abandon the use of a feed additive ractopamine, which is known to increase animal growth rates and is banned in over 160 countries worldwide. With this decision, JBS USA will get the opportunity to increase its exports to China, where demand for pork has significantly grown recently due to the outbreaks of African swine fever. JBS-SA abolished the use of ractopamine at its Brazil-based plants in mid-2018.
