MHP to buy farmland after launch of land market in Ukraine

MHP, a Ukraine-based agroholding, is interested in acquisition of farmland after the moratorium on farmland sales in Ukraine is lifted. However, the company expects no boom on land sales on behalf of farmland owners. Thus far MHP operates 370,000 hectares under land-lease agreements in several provinces of Ukraine.

The newly elected Ukrainian government has recently announced that the launch of a full-fledged land market is planned for late 2019. The moratorium on farmland sales is in effect since 2001 in Ukraine. At the same time, agricultural enterprises are not forbidden from leasing land. As a result of the land reform of early 2000s, most of the farmland in Ukraine is privately owned by individual rural inhabitants.
