SALIC to purchase farmland in Ukraine

The Saudi Agricultural & Livestock Investment Company (SALIC) is interested in expanding its operations in Ukraine in the view of the expected launch of a full-fledged farmland market in late 2020. However, the company’s investment decisions will depend on the Ukrainian government's decision on whether or not to allow foreign investors to buy Ukrainian farmland after the moratorium on land sales is lifted. SALIC's representatives emphasized that the company plans to operate in Ukraine long term and expects foreign and local market players to be treated equally.

The moratorium on farmland sales in Ukraine has been in effect since 2001. In September 2018, SALIC acquired the Ukrainian agroholding Mriya with 150,000 hectares of farmland.
