Sanderson Farms lost 1.7 million chickens as a result of flooding

Sanderson Farms, the third largest poultry producer in the United States, issued a statement that 1.7 million of its broiler chickens were destroyed as a result of flooding in North Carolina. 60 of its 880 broiler houses and four breeder houses out of 92 were flooded and another six broiler houses experienced damage. More chickens could die and the losses of live inventory could escalate if the company is unable to reach those farms with feed trucks.
