UK is now home to industrial-scale beef farming

According to the Guardian, nearly a dozen of industrial-scale cattle farms operate across the United Kingdom. Such farms are located in Kent, Northamptonshire, Suffolk, Norfolk, Lincolnshire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire and fatten up to 6,000 animals. The cattle is being held in grassless pens for extended periods of time. In contrast to large scale pig and poultry farms, industrial beef units do not require a government permit. Therefore, there are no official records on how many large scale beef units are in operation in the UK. The critics raise concerns about animal welfare and environmental issues as consequences of this style of farming.
