20 Australia’s largest farms own 70 million hectares

The Weekly Times’ latest annual study discloses the owners of almost 1000 Australia’s farms and shows the large-scale trend in Australian agriculture. In particular, the 20 largest Australian landholders occupy a total of 70 million hectares of farmland, exceeding the total area of France (64.4 million hectares). The rating is headed by the 7.92-million hectare Outback BeefS Kidman and Co.

The share of foreign ownership stakes is 13.4 per cent, or 52.6 million hectares of Australian farmland. The UK is the biggest investor with 10.24 million hectares followed by China (9.17 million hectares) and the US (2.66 million hectares).
