Merci Trade to lose $ 1.7 million due to FMD infection

Merci Trade, a Russia-based agroholding engaged in pork production, detected an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) at its farm and slaughterhouse in the Primorsky region. So far the livestock losses amount to 5,000 pigs, while the total damages from the FMD outbreak are estimated at RUB 112 million ($ 1.7 million). The farm’s total livestock in the amount of 22,592 pigs is to be destructed. However, the company will not withdraw the products from sale, as the quarantine measures were taken timely.

In May 2014, a total of 10 decease outbreaks were recorded at the Merci Trade enterprises. The company encountered damages worth RUB 500 million ($ 7.5 million) at that time.
