Prodimex to produce 1.6 million tonnes of sugar

Prodimex, a Russia-based agroholding, plans to produce 1.6 million tonnes of sugar by the end of 2019/2020 production season (August 2019-February 2020), a 23%-increase as compared to the previous season. In total, the sugar plants of the agroholding processed 11 million tonnes of sugar beets, a 22%-increase as compared to the 2018/2019 season. Of the total amount processed, 65% of sugar beets were own-produced by the company. Sugar beet yields grew 25% as compared to the previous season. Growth in sugar production alongside the state subsidies for agricultural exporters fostered the development of exports. As of February 2020, Prodimex already exported about 210,000 tonnes of sugar within the current season. The company’s main exports markets are Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Tajikistan, Montenegro, and Albania.
